Descriptor:
This broadcast video is a news package that my team and I did as curriculum for the module M313 - Development Journalism.
The topic speaks about local social issues and I had the honour to interview Mr Derrick Ee from Breakthrough Cafe.
It was graded an A.
The Yellow Ribbon Project is a well-known project around Singapore. However, most Singaporeans are still wary because they never saw things from an ex-convict's perspective. “Starting Anew” was created to spread awareness of the difficulties reformed ex-convicts may face and how they have truly changed and simply hopes to integrate back into Singapore’s community.

Afterthoughts:
Inspired and happy was how I felt after I was done with the video production. People often have pre-conceived ideas over ex-convicts. However, this project had given me the chance to see the world through the eyes of a reformed man. It made learn that some of these people did not revert to their old habits by choice – but circumstances – and it is up to us to help them through it.
